Q2 ‘20 Release: Easy administration & end-user experiences for the mobile workforce

As the world emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses are gradually offering employees the option to return to the workplace, albeit with stricter guidelines to defend against further spread of the virus. However, a significant number are erring on the side of caution and are opting to continue working remotely. Nearly 60 percent of Americans working from home would prefer to work remotely as much as possible according to a Gallup survey conducted earlier during the pandemic. Realistically, a full return to the workplace will take some time.

That’s why for this quarterly release, we bring to you new features and capabilities that support easy administration and end user experiences for the mobile workforce. Whether you are answering help desk calls from employees who are working from home, or are bringing in new hires to set up their workstations, we’ve got you covered. These new features and functionalities span four key areas:

  1. Experience
  2. Security
  3. Administration
  4. Developer

What are we announcing?

Experience
Now that workers can no longer rely on in-person IT support, self-service improvements allow users to easily find what they need without having to flood their IT help desk.

    • New User Profile: Users now have access to a more mobile-friendly and responsive user profile, where they can easily update their password, change their authentication factors, as well as view recent login activity to detect and report suspicious logins to their IT and Security teams.

    • New OneLogin Portal App: With enhanced navigation and integration of the new user profile on the OneLogin app, end users can perform all their self-service needs from one place that is also consistent with their desktop or web browser experience. Form-based authentication utilizes the built-in auto-fill feature for iOS and Android devices to easily log users in to apps that don’t support SAML or OIDC.

Security
The dynamic nature of the modern workforce requires infosecurity leaders to effectively implement strong security policies to cover every aspect of the business. This becomes increasingly challenging when you have no direct control over the locations and the devices that your employees and customers are using to access your digital properties.

    • Biometric Verification on OneLogin Protect: With this new update, control whether or not end users need to submit biometric verification on the push notification flow for OneLogin’s mobile multi-factor authentication (MFA) app. Require, for insurance, use of FaceID on iOS or the equivalent on Android for particularly sensitive applications.

  • Password Attributes Blacklist: With our SmartFactor Authentication™ package, improve password security for end users by specifying which directory attributes, such as name, email, and/or UPN, are prohibited for use in their passwords. Anytime a user attempts to create an invalid password, they will receive a notification indicating they are using an insecure password and an event will be generated with detailed notes included for compliance purposes.

Administration
As part of our continued investment in the admin experience, we have made several updates to the Enterprise Sandbox and admin console to not only make it easier to navigate, but also help quickly find what you need throughout your day-to-day operations.

    • Enterprise Sandbox: First announced at the end of last year, the Enterprise Sandbox allows you to test new features and configurations in an isolated, safe environment. Confidently test out new mappings and security policy configurations before deploying to production without the fear of impacting other systems or end users. With the latest iteration, get directly into your sandbox with just one-click.

  • Admin User Experience: We’ve added several updates to the admin console, such as search for User Roles, pagination on the Users page, 275+ new event filters (and more!) to improve the overall convenience of using the OneLogin service.

Developer
Our APIs and SDKs make it possible to extend the OneLogin platform across your environment to customize login and authentication workflows your way. We will continue to add new developer tools to help you build the experiences you desire for your users.

  • App Rules API: In addition to our Apps API, which enables the creation of apps via API, this new admin API allows you to administer app rules. Easily create, modify, and delete app rules, especially if you have a lot of them to manage.

  • User Mappings API: Much like the App Rules API, leverage this new admin API to list, create, update, delete and reorder mappings for easier management.

  • iOS/Android OIDC SDK: Easily integrate your custom iOS and Android native mobile apps with OneLogin through OIDC to provide a better mobile experience for your users on the go.

*RD Gateway, Azure AD Connect, and RADIUS VSA are now generally available.

Early Preview Program
In addition to our newly announced features, we also have an early preview program for customers to enroll in.

  • RD Web Access: Simply and reliably add MFA when using RDP to access Windows servers and desktops in local or remote data centers or private clouds (i.e. AWS and Microsoft Azure). Please register to participate in the RD Web Access early preview.
