At OneLogin, we embrace our values in everything we do. Whether it’s Security First, Collaborative, Creative, Accountable, and/or Customer Focused, our employees are constantly striving to disrupt the industry. We want to recognize those that step above and beyond in their work. Each month, OneLoginers nominate a peer, mentor, or manager for our monthly MVP awards. Our MVP award is given to the employee who has received the most nominations and gets recognition at our town halls. The MVP award is given to the employee who is constantly stepping above and beyond while embodying one or more of our values!
Last month, we awarded Zdenek Bzoch, who was recently promoted to Senior Software Engineer!
Now, announcing April’s MVP of the Month…Luis Velasco - Sr. Software Engineer, and James Liu - Sales Manager! That’s right - we have two well-deserved winners! Thank you for embracing our OneLogin values. Here’s what our colleagues have to say about them:
“James is a coach in every possible definition of the term. He explains challenging information clearly, while simultaneously pivoting to mirror each person’s unique learning style. He is emotionally intelligent and lifts morale even after a challenging day. He encourages everyone to speak their mind and has forged a synergistic team environment where I feel like my opinion is valued..”
“Luis Velasco should be renamed The OneLogin Superman. If only we can 2-3 clone of him, we can take on all our competitors. He is intelligent and very hard working. From the time I joined OneLogin, he has been working with me and my team. I appreciate all his work.”
We love seeing all the OneLoginer love! We did a short interview with both of them today so let’s get to know more about their day-to-day and what they like to do in their free time:
1. What does a typical day at OneLogin look like for you?
James: A typical day for me at OneLogin starts with a review of our SDR dashboard. Our dashboard includes all of the metrics and KPIs that we value: meetings completed, scheduled meetings, # of calls, # of emails, pipeline sourced for the quarter, stage 2 opportunities created, and many others. Our goal as an SDR team is to generate pipeline for the AEs to sell, so reviewing metrics every morning helps me prioritize my day. Other than morning reviews of dashboards, every day as an SDR leader is unique — some days may be focused on writing email templates for a new campaign we are focusing on as a team, other days I’m spending most of the day jumping on calls with SDRs to help them qualify leads. The spontaneity of the job makes it fun.
Luis: My normal day usually involves morning syncs with the team where everybody syncs with our PMs for updates on urgent needs or commits we need to deliver. It’s usually space for every team member to describe their progress and/or blockers on the stuff they’re working on.
2. What does being awarded OneLogin’s MVP of the Month award mean to you?
James: Being awarded OneLogin’s MVP of the Month is extremely gratifying because it’s one that is given from the peers that you work with. I’ve always felt that hard work is recognized at OneLogin and this award reiterates that belief for me. I work with so many people at OneLogin that deserve this award over me, so I’m humbled to receive this award.
Luis: I’m surprised about this and am very happy to have been nominated and received the award. I’m usually not a big speaker or noticed in public, but I do enjoy helping others with their tasks, I usually go around poking privately. This appreciation means a lot to me and keeps me motivated to do it better!
3. What are some things you enjoy doing outside of work?
James: Outside of work, I really enjoy spending time outdoors. Golfing is my favorite hobby, but I also love to hike and run outdoors.
Luis: I’m a gamer and am a fan of strategy games like Starcraft2, Age of Empires (all sagas), C&C, and adventure games like The Witcher 3, Zelda, LOTR sagas. But when feeling about going out I love a nice hike around the city or parks, usually on to meet new places. I also enjoy going to the movies and hanging out with friends, of course!
4. You step outside for a walk and find a lottery ticket that ends up winning $10 million. What would you do?
James: If I won $10 million dollars I would travel the world, play as much golf as possible, and start a puppy farm and rescue dogs.
Luis: You’ll not deny the first thing everyone looks into is stability, so I’ll most likely get myself a home in a small town. I’ve always wanted to grow my own fruits and vegetables so that’ll be my first goal. Since 10M is a lot of money I would invest with friends in my hometown on cattle and agriculture since that’s also been in my plans for the long term. I hope this can be achieved sometime in the next 5 years without having to rely on the lottery ticket! :)
5. If you were on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?
James: The two items I would bring would be a puppy so that I would have company and my golf clubs so that I can play golf and keep myself busy.
Luis: Hope clay is one of the minerals to be found in this deserted island, I would probably start doing pottery but if not, carpentry to build my home and because I would love to try those out sometime in the future, even if I have to learn by myself and definitely swimming as a relaxing activity. I would still love to do some gardening around. I just love nature :)
