Employee Spotlight: Katerina Bernasek, Acct Exec.

October 16th, 2018   |     |  culture & news

At OneLogin, recognizing and celebrating the employees who make this company such an amazing place to work is a top priority. To that end, I’d like to present another employee spotlight blog post that highlights one of our many awesome Sales Account Executives, Katerina Bernasek.

What is your role at OneLogin? What is your day to day like?
“I work on the Sales Team at OneLogin. More specifically, I am an SMB account executive. My day-to-day basically entails finding new opportunities or advancing the opportunities I have.

Ultimately that involves a lot of time educating people about how OneLogin is going to help their business run more efficiently and securely.”

When did you start at OneLogin? Has your role evolved since joining?
“Yes, so I was hired as a Sales Development Representative in September 2016 - so just over two years ago.

From there I figured out pretty quickly that I wanted to be an AE. It was a multi-step process, but I started working toward that by first familiarizing myself with the product, then meeting with current AE’s and AE managers to practice my pitch.

And after about a year of preparation and practice, I was ready to take on that Account Executive role.”

What were you doing before OneLogin? And what drew you from there to OneLogin?
“Before OneLogin I was actually a contracts manager doing paralegal work at an AdTech company.

What really interested me was tech sales, so I began interviewing at a few tech companies. I was really drawn in by the access management space that OneLogin is a part of. It just seemed like a much more substantial industry and product than anything else I was looking at.

Eventually, I entered the final steps of interviewing with OneLogin and one of their competitors, and I had to choose which one I wanted to move forward with. As I got to know both companies better through the interview process, it became clear that OneLogin is much more of a people-oriented organization with a real emphasis on career development. Once I realized that, it was an easy choice.”

What do you like most about working at OneLogin?
“A lot of things!

I like that my day-to-day is always different. Conversations I have with prospects are always different because the OneLogin product is so adaptive. It can be pitched in a lot of different ways to meet the needs of whomever I’m talking to, which means I’m never repeating the same things over and over. Each conversation requires its own strategy, which is something you can’t say about a lot of products.

I also love the people I work with. I’m surrounded by people - both peers at my same level as well as company leaders - who are super intelligent and ambitious. I really trust the people I’m around, as well as what this organization is doing, and where we are going.

It’s also nice that we have a great selection of snacks. I love cheddar clouds.”

What would you say to people who are considering OneLogin as their next employer?
“I would say that working in sales here is challenging but extremely rewarding. OneLogin’s product is unique in that it’s totally changing how IT admins, security professionals, and end users operate in the workplace.

You’re not just giving people what they want. You’re teaching them about what they need to stay competitive going forward.

In my experience, that has meant selling is neither easy nor repetitive. It’s a much more involved sale than people might be used to, and it requires a lot of thought.

All of that said, if you can rise to the challenge, this is a really engaging and rewarding job. There is so much opportunity for success here, both in the short and long terms. We are redefining an untapped market that is overflowing with potential. That can be intimidating for some people, but if you are a self-motivated, self-sufficient person, you can absolutely thrive here - and have fun doing it!”

What do you do outside these walls for fun?
“Well I love to cook, and I also love to decorate. So one of my favorite things to do is throw dinner parties - especially themed or seasonal dinner parties - for my friends.

I’m also a pretty big nerd who loves doing jigsaw puzzles. I usually do one every 2-3 weeks - typically around 1,000-2,500 pieces each.”

What was the last event/concert you went to for fun?
“Well this isn’t a concert, but I actually go to a lot of stand up comedy shows. I probably go to about 15 every year. Jim Jeffries is my absolute favorite, but definitely don’t let your kids in the room while you watch him.

Most recently I went to the Netflix taping of Eliza Schlesinger’s standup special. It was awesome.”

Is there anything else you’d like the world to know?
“I would just say to anyone interested in working here that if you are looking for a cool place to work that doesn’t leave you feeling drained at the end of the day, has plenty of opportunity, and is overflowing with great people, check out OneLogin. It’s checked all of those boxes for me!”
