Curve Enables Its HR-Driven Identity Management Vision with OneLogin and BetterCloud

Like many lean IT departments in fast-growing companies, Curve’s two-man team found itself buried under requests for provisioning and deprovisioning. Not only did this prevent the team from applying its skills and expertise to help the company strategically, it failed to support the company’s ambitious growth plans.

“We doubled our employee count last year and expect to do the same this year. And we need to enable employees to be productive from day one,” explains Rob Barrett, IT Support Engineer for Curve.

Finding a Powerful Solution

With a vision to enable HR-driven identity management, Barrett and his colleague Hazlitt van Goethem, Junior SRE for Curve, evaluated Okta. Then they learned of the combination of OneLogin and BetterCloud from David Remington, CEO of Remitech. “David understood our requirements and encouraged us to look at these two solutions. We couldn’t believe we could get all that functionality for the same price as Okta,” says van Goethem.

Faster Provisioning and Deprovisioning

With cloud-based HR-driven identity and access management (IAM) using OneLogin’s Trusted Experience Platform™, Curve can rely on HR to keep employee data accurate within Hibob. Within BetterCloud, this data kicks off the role-based access provisioning workflow and notifies the IT team. “New employees now get quick, secure access to the applications they need and IT is no longer a bottleneck in the provisioning process,” says Barrett.

Similarly, when an employee leaves the company, IT no longer needs to jump through hoops and respond to last-minute requests. Instead, based on pre-configured access policies set by IT, Curve’s HR department can instantly revoke an employees’ access to their job-specific applications in one step, without relying on IT.

Activating Strategies that Support Growth

From the start, Barrett and van Goethem wanted key employee processes to flow from HR. “We’re lucky to work so closely with our HR team. The collaboration between IT and HR is what made this all possible,” says Barrett. By enabling HR-driven identity and access management and role-based access control, they’ve infinitely improved the experience for new employees.

The IT team can now also shift their focus to additional strategic projects. “We no longer spend our time dealing with routine provisioning and deprovisioning-related tasks. Now we can turn our attention to other projects that improve the employee experience,” concludes Barrett.
