OneLogin’s new Announcements capability is a simple yet powerful way to broadcast time ‑sensitive messages to your users right where they already start their day: The OneLogin portal. Instead of relying on email blasts or chat messages that get buried, Announcements let IT and security teams post clear, centrally managed notices that appear when users access their apps and resources.

What are Announcements (and why do they matter)?

Announcements are portal-visible banner messages that are displayed in the OneLogin App Portal, which can be used to communicate things like:

  • Planned maintenance windows or service outages
  • Security reminders: Phishing warnings, MFA prompts, policy changes
  • Security enhancements: To encourage users to enroll additional or stronger MFA factors, perform access reviews etc.
  • IT updates: New app rollouts, password policy guidance, support hours
  • Business communications relevant to access: Office closures, VPN requirements

Because they live in the OneLogin App Portal, they’re contextual, trusted and harder to miss than traditional channels.

Announcements can have different colours applied to them based on the announcement type, such as “update”, ”critical” or ”warning,” and can be selectively displayed to collections of users based on OneLogin role or group memberships. This can even be applied to the applications to which the user is assigned direct access.

Announcements can also be easily configured by OneLogin administrators to display to users on a daily, weekly or monthly basis or even for every login.

Announcements can be configured to be displayed indefinitely or for a timebound basis, such as by start time/date and end time/date, to simplify administration for your OneLogin administration team.

Announcements configuration allows external links to be included so that when users click the “read more” element of an Announcement, they are immediately taken to that URL in a new browser tab to find out more.

Key benefits for IT and security teams

  • Centralized communication: Post once, reach everyone who uses their portal.
  • Reduced helpdesk load: Proactively answer “Is something down?” and “What changed?” before tickets spike.
  • Faster security response: Quickly distribute urgent guidance during active phishing campaigns or incidents.
  • Better user experience: Users get timely, relevant updates without hunting through inboxes or group chats.

Real-world use cases

A few practical examples:

  • “SSO to Salesforce may be intermittent from 22:00–23:00 UTC during maintenance.”
  • “New MFA requirement starts Monday—enroll now to avoid access issues.”
  • “We’ve added Workday to the portal—use the new tile for HR requests.”
  • “Line Managers – Please complete all App Access Reviews in November”
  • “If you receive a ‘shared document’ email today, report it—known phishing attempt.”

Tips for effective Announcements

  • Keep messages short and action-oriented
    • Example: “What’s happening and what to do.”
  • Include time windows and expected impact.
  • Link to a status page or internal KB article when more detail is needed.
  • Retire Announcements promptly so the portal stays trustworthy and uncluttered.
