Law Firm Looks to SaaS and Single Sign-on for Expenses Management

The upgrade to digital records for expenses management brought us huge benefits, but also significant challenges, particularly in terms of adopting SaaS – we were new to the service and needed a seamless approach in order to improve efficiency. Due to the nature of our work, we hold vast amounts of sensitive data which needed to remain secure whilst vital system updates were rolled out effectively on an international scale.

MIKE NOLAN, IT Director, Berwin Leighton Paisner

Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) is an award winning international law firm, consisting of over 850 lawyers, including almost 200 partners in 14 offices across the globe. Providing services within real estate, litigation and corporate risk, corporate, finance and tax, BLP’s distinctive approach has seen it receive eight ‘Law Firm of the Year’ awards since 2004 and named a top-five ‘legal game changer of the last decade’ in 2015 by the Financial Times.

Challenge
BLP was looking to adopt a more digital approach for daily tasks in the office through SaaS and required a seamless transition. Mike Nolan, IT Director at BLP explains, “The upgrade to digital records for expenses management brought us huge benefits, but also significant challenges, particularly in terms of adopting SaaS–we were new to the service and needed a seamless approach in order to improve efficiency. Due to the nature of our work, we hold vast amounts of sensitive data which needed to remain secure whilst vital system updates were rolled out effectively on an international scale.”

After considering a number of different options, it was decided that BLP required a solution that maintained a high level of security, worked efficiently and would also grow in the future while supporting the firm’s end goal of moving other suitable systems to a SaaS approach.

Solution
After a strong recommendation from its SaaS provider and following further investigations, BLP agreed the OneLogin solution was indeed the best fit. OneLogin’s unified approach to rolling out software updates, its secure identity management solution and single sign-on offering, the low cost of its solution and its proven track record with SaaS providers were significant factors in BLP’s decision to implement its solution.

With a large and growing workforce, BLP chose OneLogin primarily for its single sign-on service which met all of the firm’s needs.

Results
BLP has benefitted from a number of additional OneLogin services which have improved efficiency and reduced cost, including:

  • Utilising SaaS solutions that were previously unavailable, in a controlled and secure way that is unobtrusive to users
  • Increasingly including SaaS products when making vendor selections for new solutions, allowing BLP to ensure it is providing the best of breed tools for its employees, as well as modernising ways of working

“Our initial planning discussions with OneLogin were effective and we were provided with good support during the setup and testing phase. Implementation was also quick and straightforward,” says Nolan.

“The single sign-on services provided by OneLogin have proven imperative to rolling out new applications to the whole organisation, no matter the location or time zone. Not only has it helped us simplify a rapidly evolving estate of applications but with thanks to OneLogin, we can look to integrate more software with complete confidence in the future.”
